Lose stones
Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 21:16, Thursday 31 July 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7962721.
Hi, Today on Thursday 31/07/2025 I was driving towards Dover and around 6.00pm a lose stone that came most likely from under the wheels of another vehicle hit my windscreen, causing me a huge fright and almost making me lose control of my vehicle at 70mph. This happened on M20 towards Dover, around where the Samphire Hoe sign and a speed camera are. I drive this road regularly, and am familiar with the area. Nothing as scary as this ever happened to me on a motorway before. It all happened very fast. I was about to start slowing down before the stretch of the road with 40mph limit. I heard a loud bang and initially didn't know what has happened I closed my sun visor and saw a big, approximately 1cm wide chip in my windscreen. Slightly above my eve level, but definitely in my line of view. It could have ended really badly for me and it was extremely dangerous. This will most likely cause me to replace an entire windscreen and I am extremely unhappy about this. I am not even sure whether I even slowed down in time before the change in the speed limit. Not sure whether to call myself lucky or not, but this should have not happened. The motorways should be clear of any debris and lose stones.
I have photos of the location and of the chip, as I would like to make a claim for this repair. Please do log this and provide further instructions.
Kind regards, Agnieszka
