Litter all along the A19 from seaton burn to tyne tunnel

Reported via mobile in the Main Carriageway (NH) category by Pete Crumpton at 20:09, Wed 30 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7956864.

Since recent grass cutting an obscene amount of litter is evident from the top of the a19 at seaton burn along to the tyne tunnel. Both central reservation and sides are covered and making the area look like a third world country. A serious issue to wildlife also.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We've checked and can confirm that although we are responsible for the grass cutting at this location and it was done recently, the local authority is responsible for litter clearance on this road.

In this location it would be North Tyneside Council. We have reported it on your behalf but they can be contacted on their website https://my.northtyneside.gov.uk/ .

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
