Hello There are a number of electronic rotating lane signs on the m1 that have been out of order for months. Because of how this section of the m1 works with the hard shoulder becoming a live lane occasionally this is causing huge confusion when the sign contradict the gantries and vice versa. This causes confusing, plenty of near misses and likely accidents. the slips roads when the hard shoulder is not a lane is very short and when you pass the rotating lane sign saying it’s line to come round the corner to it saying it’s closed and you need to move over in 100-200 meters is dangrous. How has this been allowed to stay like this so long. Smart motorways are dangrous enough as it is. Having signage contradicting what drivers can/can’t do at the time is crazy.
I’ve just seen on the news that there’s been another accident on the m1 at a junction where this sign is not working and incorrect most the time. I will be reporting this to the news to ensure they highlight that the maintenance of the motorway has been lacking and there’s been no care by highways to resolve it so it’s safe to run.
Can you please provide a date when ALL lane signage from this point north wards will be working correctly.
