Road to nowhere

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 15:07, Sat 19 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7902555.

A part road exists off the A66 and runs into a wooded area. I hope I have the location right. I can't see it serves any purpose. It is very accessible and used by bikes and scooters who use Snipe Lane to access the road out to the A66 and across it. It is dangerous and blocking the road would prevent an accident happening. The young men who ride these bikes and scooters don't have number plates and ride at speed down Snipe Lane and into the wooded area and out along the part road onto the A66.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting this issue to us via FixMyStreet.

We are aware of several access points onto the A66 from Snipe Lane. Some of these access points are public footpaths which can only be restricted through a legal process. Reports of dangerous or antisocial behaviour can be reported to the police using the phone number 101 (or 999 in an emergency situation) and also via the Durham Constabulary website. We have passed the information about this issue to Durham Constabulary for investigation.

    Kind Regards, National Highways
