Access to A66 from Broughton Cross ///crowbar.gloom.plantings

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 15:03, Fri 18 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7899245.

On the evening of Saturday 12th July there was a serious accident, with fatalities, on the A66 below Broughton Cross. The state of the steps down to the road hindered easy access for people running to help and the emergency services who attended, including the air ambulance crew. I believe the steps are within the perimeter of land belonging to National Highways. They are badly overgrown with brambles and nettles and I wonder if they could be cleared regularly as part of your maintenance programme? There are very few access points to the A66 from adjacent roads which makes this of greater significance.
