27 miles on 50mph for 'incident' and still nothing with variable speed limit still seen in distnace from J12. Came on at 7 already on 50. Left 12 still on 50. No heavy traffic. No congestion. No accidents.

Updates

  • On the 16 July 2025, our stop vehicle detection systems had an unplanned outage affecting multiple locations on the M4, M25 and M1 motorways. 50mph displayed on our signage gantries as a precaution along with deploying extra traffic officer patrols to reduce the risk to stranded vehicles. Once the outage with our systems was reinstated.

    I am sorry for the delays and inconvenience you experienced. Technology faults represent a challenge in maintaining our high level of service during which brings with it an increased workload and a changing environment. Our investigation will continue to review our performance during this time and to ensure we learn from this experience.
