Overgrown Signage Jct 11A ingress slip

Reported via desktop in the Sign Obscured (NH) category anonymously at 08:56, Fri 11 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7860896.

Some of the main merging instruction road signs when joining at 11A from channel tunnel egress slip are unreadable due to overgrown bushes on the verge ahead of them. Other verge main signage on M20 soon after joining at 11A are also heavily overgrown. Cut back all bushes on the slip roads and verges around the road signs?

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

Vegetation maintenance is conducted through our yearly cycle of works, referred to as cyclical maintenance. Our goal is to address all locations requiring vegetation management at least once per year, if deemed necessary. We oversee an extensive road network across the south of England, and for areas identified as requiring more frequent attention, we’ll implement additional maintenance outside of our cyclical schedule. This ensures that any vegetation posing a safety risk is appropriately managed by our maintenance partners if necessary.

Vegetation maintenance often necessitates lane closures, which can impact traffic flow. To reduce disruptions, we strive to integrate vegetation management with other maintenance activities wherever possible. While this approach minimises traffic inconvenience, it may occasionally result in longer intervals between maintenance periods, allowing vegetation to grow naturally during this time.

In certain cases, it can take up to three months or more to secure the required authorisation for road or slip road closures. This is particularly true at sections of our network that connect to busy junctions or key infrastructure such as the Euro Tunnel.

At present, vegetation cuts for this location is expected to be addressed during September subject to obtaining the necessary authority to close sections of the network.

    Kind Regards,

    National Highways
