Speed restriction signs left by roadside

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 18:05, Sun 6 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7817231.

A significant stretch of the M11 north of junction 11 and south of Junction 10 has 40mph speed restriction signs in place for miles despite there being no roadworks whatsoever.

I can only assume the company has forgotten to remove the 40mph signs once the works have been completed. Totally unacceptable to restrict traffic in this way for no reason.

I assume the company responsible will be fined accordingly.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the 40mph speed restriction on the M11. The speed restriction will remain in force until barrier maintenance / replacement is completed along this section of the motorway.

We are sorry you to hear you have been affected by the work we were doing to maintain our roads. We make every effort to carry out the work we do to cause as little disruption as possible in terms of both traffic using the road and nearby residents and businesses.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to do this without causing an element of inconvenience or disturbance in one form or another and for this we apologise.

Please be assured we aim to complete the works as quickly as possible and will pass your comments to the relevant team to see if there are any steps that could be taken to alleviate the issue if it is still ongoing.

    Kind regards National Highways
