Vibration walking on footbridge over motorway

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 17:25, Saturday 5 July 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7813870.

I walked across the footbridge over the M18 linking Muirfield Avenue with Ryton Way in the Cantley area of Doncaster. There was a lot of vibration given there was only one person walking slowly on it on a moderately windy day, especially on the end over the northbound carriageway. The joints between the horizontal pieces of the bridge do not look in good condition. Could you please inspect it to see if it needs to be repaired or replaced?

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. We have Inspected the structure of the footbridge on 8 July 2025 and found no issues.

We understand your concerns regarding the vibrations experienced on the bridge. Our engineering team manager has confirmed that, as this is a steel bridge its possible that you may notice some movement while crossing.

    Kind regards National Highways
