Graffiti all over NH assets

Reported via desktop in the Graffiti (NH) category anonymously at 07:56, Sun 29 June 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7779575.

This has been reported now for 9 months - previous reports of same issue also present on map reporting tool. You have stated it is cleaned off within 6, clearly this isn't happening as the same issue is still ongoing. There is graffiti all over NH assets, including electrical boxes, roundabout one way signs, lamp posts and on the back of road direction signs - all around located around this roundabout and have been now for 9 months. Please action removing as it is well overdue.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

Whilst we understand that graffiti is unsightly, and we apologise for the delay in its removal, unfortunately, due to the ongoing costs involved and the limited resources available to councils and the police to identify and prosecute offenders, only graffiti deemed offensive will be removed from our network going forward. Non-offensive graffiti will remain in place.

The high cost of removing non-offensive graffiti, along with the frequency of repeat offences, means it is no longer feasible to allocate designated funds for its removal. These limited resources must instead be directed towards higher-priority issues, such as carriageway repairs and safety defects, which have a greater impact on road users.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
