M3 North Jct 13 corroded overhead gantry

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 11:50, Saturday 7 June 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7674412.

On the M3 northbound approaching junction 13, one of the overhead gantries has sustained significant corrosion/rust and may be in need of inspection. Mostly contained to the underneath of the gantry, notably under the message sign over the hard shoulder.

The gantry is located at location post 116.1 next to the SOS phone, before the exit for junction 13.

I also believe most of the gantries around the junction 13/14 area both north and sound may be in need of inspection, as they all appear to be corroded to some extent due to their age.

  • Thank you for making your report. We have asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.

If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

  • Thank you for submitting this report.

The gantry in question belongs to National Highways and is regularly inspected as part of the ongoing Structures inspection regime. Detailed inspections are carried out every two years, and the last inspection was 14/12/2023, with the next inspection due in October this year.

The corrosion mentioned was observed and noted during the inspection, and was found to be minor surface corrosion only, so no structural issue to be worried about. The condition, including the corrosion, will be monitored at future inspections.

    Kind regards National Highways
