Why is this short length of fence not repaired

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 08:01, Wed 4 June 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7659218.

There has been a 50-40 mph speed limit on A27 west bound for months causing queues and cars breaking. Given no obvious work is taking place motorists are uncertain, this restriction is misleading and encourage motorists to ignore. It is not obvious but it seems a short length of fence on the Havant/Langston junction flyover needs repair. Time to repair and remove restrictions!

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. I appreciate your concerns and frustrations with the speed restrictions, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you. It’s never our intention to inconvenience road users on our network unnecessarily.

On the A27 in this area, a temporary speed limit has been installed until repairs to a damaged parapet can be completed. The reduction in speed is to avoid any further accidents involving the public or any more damage to the parapet. We’re looking to complete a permanent repair at the earliest opportunity, but at present we do not have a date for this unfortunately.

Safety is our priority and in cases where we cannot do an immediate and permanent repair, we have to ensure that measures such as speed restrictions are put in place until we can.

Whilst we understand the frustration and impact poor driver behaviour can have on other road users, we don’t have any enforcement powers to stop drivers that you mention ignoring the temporary speed limits in place. Any enforcement to tackle driver behaviour is conducted by the local police and you can report this calling 101.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Kind regards National Highways
