Brambles falling down into Cycle Lane
Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 20:41, Wed 7 May 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7536882.
I have previously report this issue, which was closed stating that there was no issue. This is incorrect and not acceptable.
The brambles (a plant with thorns) are dangling down from the tree canopy and are at a height where a cyclist will cut their face if the brambles are not seen in time and that cyclist can duck underthem.
The segregated path along this stretch is narrow, less than 1 metre width, therefore the cyclist is limited to their ability to avoid the brambles.
How is the weekly safety inspection carried out, do your operatives walk the segregated path? Cycle along it?
--- We've inspected the location highlighted today during our weekly safety inspection of the A23 when the condition of the path ism't currently considered a safety issue.
We're commencing our cyclic routine vegetation cuts across our network when this cycle path will be attended to, though we can't offer a date at this time.
We will continue to monitor the vegetation growth and should it become a safety issue we'll arrange urgent mitigation.
Kind regards
National Highways

Thank you for your report.
Our inspector reviewed the location on the footpath specified in the earlier report on foot.
The previously referred to cyclic maintenance in underway and the footpath was attended to on 8 May.
We trust you notice improvements when next using the path.
