Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7502006.

There are dead carcasses and also a lot of rubbish on the A5 both carriageways between Wellington (Shropshire) & Preston island. The carcasses and rubbish are off the carriageway on the verges, lay-bys & central reservation. Many items have been there for a number of weeks.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.

Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards National Highways

The local authorities are responsible for maintenance of litter and the removal of the deer on this road. The layby just after junction 7 westbound and the layby just prior to junction 7 eastbound come under Telford and Wrekin’s responsibility, all other layby’s on the A5 come under Shropshire Council’s responsibility. Please contact them to resolve this issue. Contact details for local authorities can be found by using the search facility at:
