General rubbish between motorway and golf club fencing

Reported via desktop in the Flytipping (NH) category anonymously at 14:57, Mon 28 April 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7493360.

There have been at least 3 incidents of general rubbish being fly tipped from the motorway hard shoulder, meaning the area between the M66 motorway and the golf club fencing is now strewn with litter and debris. I reported this to Bury council in error on 10/03/2025 and 31/03/2025 on their website but got no answers until i tried ringing them today. They admitted not passing the information on.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We have passed your report to our local inspector who will review the issue as part of their next safety inspection and arrange any remedial action.

Littering and fly tipping by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can.

Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people. Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow.

To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
