Series of dead deer on both side of the road along the A449, A40 and M50
Reported via mobile in the Off the carriageway (NH) category by Dr. Oppel at 18:42, Sat 26 April 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7485852.
Specifically 1 deer on the left just where the redirection for the lower lane before mountain part starts. There is another one just before the Shell (I think) station quite a bit before Pencraig. But there is also one lying on the opposite site just ot the bottom of the little hill up to Pencraig - coming from the M50 direction. There is another dead deer on the side of the road a bit more than half a mile before the left turn towards Newent - also coming from the M50 direction. All these animals have been lying there for weeks and apart from the heartbreaking appearance this also shows how little the councils care about hygiene and order.
Updates
-
Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.
Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.
Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.
Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.
Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.
Kind regards National Highways
