Overgrown Brambles on NCN A23

Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 17:31, Saturday 26 April 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7485671.

The segregated cycle path of the NCN northbound on the A23 between Hickstead and the A272 has brambles falling down from the tree canopy. Unfortunatly they have reached the level where a bramble will strike the face of a cyclist going through. Given the tree covering it gets dark along this stretch, even during daylight, which makes avoiding these hazards difficult. I've been informed that this stretch of the segregated path is NH responsibility.

Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.

Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
