Brambles

Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 12:42, Saturday 19 April 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7455060.

Please can the highway England remove the brambles from the back of my garden. They are going to start growing fast in the summer time. They come over my fence and also into my neighbours garden. Reported last year and nothing was done about it. I have young children and worry about then catching themselves on one. I have done my best to push them back but they need removing please

  • Thank you for your report. I’m sorry to hear about the vegetation by your property and I appreciate you requesting us to maintain this.

We’ve a wide network of vegetation to manage across the south of England and are required to concentrate our efforts on customer safety and tree health within our maintainable boundaries.

For vegetation located away from the immediate carriageway, on land owned by us, we adopt a policy of allowing natural growth unless it presents a safety concern. Only dead or damaged trees, as well as vegetation identified as safety hazards, are addressed through our survey inspection and maintenance program, conducted every three years. If you would like further information about our rolling three-year tree surveys and tree management protocols, please go to our website.

Should you choose to reduce any vegetation intruding onto your property, then legally you are entitled to reduce this vegetation within the boundary of your property without requiring our permission.

If you feel the vegetation is overhanging into your garden poses a safety risk, then please contact us directly at info@nationalhighways.co.uk providing a description of the issue including pictures of the areas that are impacted by any vegetation that you consider is coming from our land. Please also include your address and contact details as we may require access to your property to assess the vegetation. This will help us move forward with your query.
