Lighting under motorway bridge on pedestrian access which is also a cycle path

Reported via mobile in the Lighting issue that may impact people with a disability (NH) category anonymously at 15:53, Fri 4 April 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7389386.

Anyone could fall over or cycle into the wall at night. The floor surface is not even Anyone could fall in the tunnel and it is not safe for anyone walking as it is DARK in the daytime. This tunnel is UNDER the motorway and the lights from this would not be seen drivers on the motorway. Especially during the day. They are low lighting on the SIDE of the tunnel and need to be on during the day for anyone using the footpath. The footpath is unsafe to use without lighting in the tunnel. For a pedestrian to use the footpath and not use the dark tunnel, you have to walk on the road for about 200 metres which does not have a footpath so you would be walking on a bust road.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

If we are able we will incorporate any improvements into planned activity on our network. We plan this work many months in advance so you may not see changes for a considerable period.

Larger changes to our network are developed often years in advance and our Equality and Diversity teams are involved in evaluating each scheme. Your feedback will be reviewed whenever we propose work in this area.

For some of our planned improvements you can search in your region on the Our Roads section of our website. Where consultation is taking place that opportunity will be found here.
