Lights installed by highways agency not working under motorway

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7384276.

There are no lights working under the motorway on the footpath in the tunnel. This connects the Nickey line footpath just by Junction 9 of the M1

  • Thank you for making your report. Our inspection team did attend this location when the installation work was complete and turned the lighting on. Over the next few days we received multiple reports that the lighting was too bright and was dazzling drivers whilst passing through at night.

    A decision was made on safety grounds to turn the lights off. This was then passed to our electrical asset team. Be assured we are aware of this issue and working diligently towards a solution.

    Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
