Rubbish scattered between Jct 5 and 4

Reported via mobile in the Flytipping (NH) category anonymously at 10:44, Thursday 3 April 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7381600.

There is a lot of various types of rubbish scattered between the two junctions. It would appear that someone fly tipped the area. Volunteer litter pickers aren’t allowed to collect it for their safety.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter.

We have passed your report to our local inspector who will review the issue as part of their next safety inspection and arrange any remedial action.

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.

Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response. We’ve identified a number of ‘hotspots’ on the network. We’re pleased to tell you litter collections across the Northwest network are set to commence from late April. While specific timeframes for individual locations cannot be provided, please rest assured efforts are ongoing to clear the network efficiently.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
