Littering everywhere

Reported via mobile in the Flytipping (NH) category by David Dalmau at 18:06, Monday 24 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7330684.

FixMyStreet ref: 7142356. I reported the above case, however the issue is growing as there is a mattress and some bags close to the roundabout, it looks like as no one cleans the area, people are using this motorway and roundabout to remove all the rubbish, that can be dangerous for the drivers.

Please see below but can this be dealt as soon as possible?

Good afternoon, There is littering everywhere on the M67 from Hattersley Roundabout {exit 4}, including the roundabout itself to exit 1A, I know this motorway will have a new bridge and at the moment everyone needs to drive at 50 miles per hour but there is no cleaning service since summer last year, additionally the roundabout Denton Island is full of rubbish too, can this be cleaned? I cannot include everything in one case but, can you please clean the full M67 on both directions, the central reservation and both roundabouts as described above?

Kind regards David

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We have passed your report to our local inspector who will review the issue as part of their next safety inspection and arrange any remedial action.

Littering and fly tipping by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can.

Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people. Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow.

To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

We’ve identified a number of ‘hotspots’ on the network. We’re pleased to tell you litter collections across the Northwest network are set to commence from late April. While specific timeframes for individual locations cannot be provided, please be assured efforts are ongoing to clear the network efficiently.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
