Dead Cat A404
Reported via mobile in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 18:03, Sat 22 March 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7320192.
I am writing to inform you of a situation regarding a deceased cat that is currently lying on the A404 heading towards junction 8/9 from the Reading/Maidenhead junction, near the central reservation. The animal is in a vulnerable position, lying in the middle of the road, and it is getting increasingly damaged by traffic and weather conditions.
Could you kindly arrange for the collection of the pet at your earliest convenience to prevent further distress or damage? The location is on the A404 in Maidenhead, and I believe prompt action would be appreciated by the community.

-
Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.
Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.
Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.
Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.
Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.
Kind regards National Highways
