Deteriorated Hard Shoulder Surface on M40 Eastbound Approaching J1A

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 15:13, Wednesday 19 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7304522.

There is a failed road surface along the hard shoulder of the M40 eastbound carriageway as it approaches Junction 1A. The deterioration extends for approximately 20-30 metres and appears to be a continuous section of degraded tarmac rather than individual potholes. The surface has broken down considerably, creating an uneven and potentially hazardous area, should vehicles need to use the hard shoulder in an emergency. This is particularly concerning given the high volume of traffic. Please address this safety concern at your earliest convenience.
