Litter on A404 between M4 and M40

Lots of litter on either side of the road in verges and central reservations over the entire length of the road from the M4 right up to and including the Handy Cross roundabout over the M40.

  • Thank you for getting in touch. I completely understand your frustration about the amount of litter along the A404(M) and A404, and I’m really sorry for the state of the verges and central reservations.

    I want to assure you that we’re aware of the issue, and for the areas that fall under National Highways’ responsibility, Our road inspectors have raised several reports to have the litter, debris, and redundant traffic management removed.

    However, the responsibility for litter clearance on sections of the A404 lies with the local authority. Our road inspectors have already been in contact with them, and they’ve confirmed that plans are in place for litter collection, though they haven’t been able to provide a specific date. If you’d like to follow up further, I’d recommend reaching out to them directly.

    I appreciate you taking the time to report this, and I completely understand how frustrating it is to see the area in such a state.
