Road Bridge Repair.

As originally reported by Cllr. Terry Gill at 16:34, Thu 1 August 2024, I was wondering why there has been no work started at this location to resolve the issue of the damaged bridge? I did notice a few months ago, road repair markings? were added to the surface of the bridge area but these have now all but worn off again due to weather and time. It has also been noted that in the past, these lights have had issues (dead batteries?) which have caused them to stop working or glitch. I have personally witnessed many drivers going through them on red even when working properly. I believe this bridge was hit more than a year ago now (could you confirm the exact date in your reply) and there has seemingly been no progress as far as I can see. Also, I was wondering if I can find how much it is costing taxpayers to rent the signs, cones and traffic lights for this period?

Thank you for contacting National Highways.
We apologise for any inconvenience you are experiencing due to the damaged bridge and the traffic management in place.
The bridge was hit 19 November 2023 and damage to the structure on the westbound carriageway was significant and extensive. The structure of the bridge is also complex and not typical of many of our bridge structures. The bridge has now been struck numerous times. We have previously carried out cosmetic repairs but we now have structural damage and this will unfortunately take longer to resolve.
We have carried out initial assessments but these have revealed much more complex and extensive issues. Detailed, numerical assessments now need to be carried out. These assessments are not just visual surveys and will take time, estimated at around 6 months.
We appreciate that Traffic Management has been deployed for some time but we have to manage structures so that they are safe for the loads from traffic. Traffic management will have to remain in place until repairs can be carried out.
We apologise again for the inconvenience you are experiencing and please be assured that we have passed your comments onto the team in charge of this project.
Kind regards
National Highways
