Speed limit signs still in place

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 09:48, Sat 15 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7281955.

There are 50 and 40 mph signs on this section (emsworth to havant A27 west) of road for no obvious reason, it is incredibly dangerous to do these speeds as 99% of drivers are ignoring these signs. This has been there for over a month with no obvious change

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the temporary speed limit.

I appreciate your concerns and frustrations with the speed restrictions, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you. It’s never our intention to inconvenience road users on our network unnecessarily.

Whilst we understand the frustration and impact poor driver behaviour can have on other road users, we don’t have any enforcement powers to stop drivers that you mention ignoring the temporary speed limits in place. Any enforcement to tackle driver behaviour is conducted by the local police and you can report this calling 101.

On the A27 in this area, a temporary speed limit has been installed until repairs to the damaged parapet can be completed. The reduction in speed is to avoid any further accidents involving the public or any more damage to the parapet. We’re looking to complete a permanent repair at the earliest opportunity.

In the meantime, our contractors will be ensuring the signs showing that the national speed limit is in place are covered up to avoid confusion.

Safety is our priority and in cases where we cannot do an immediate and permanent repair, we have to ensure that measures such as speed restrictions are put in place until we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Kind regards National Highways
