Heavy graffiti on the pillars supporting the flyover

Reported via desktop in the Graffiti (NH) category anonymously at 13:30, Friday 14 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7278853.

Almost all the pillars are now covered in graffiti and tagging. Look quite grim coming into Shoreham. This is a problem all along the A27

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

The graffiti in this area has been risk assessed and classified as a non-safety defect. In line with our guidance, we have up to 6 months to remove the graffiti. We will endeavour to remove this sooner should one of our routine maintenance closures covers this location. Putting out standalone closures is unfortunately not cost effective for us to paint over, for it to reappear again within a short amount of time. For non-offensive graffiti we will take a risk-based approach, and should it become a safety defect we will remove within 24 hours whereby it is offensive graffiti. I appreciate this may not be the answer you are looking for and we continue to monitor the graffiti locations and provide to our network resilience teams to see if any network enhancements can be made to reduce the number of interventions needed at locations such as here.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
