Litter

Reported via desktop in the Slip Roads (NH) category anonymously at 21:04, Wednesday 12 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7269927.

The A2 Watling Street slip Road toward the junction with the A227 has been disgusting mess for months now with no sign of this being addressed. The slip Road and the area of the roundabout is an absolute eyesore. If the council area unable to clear this up am I allowed to?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter.

Having reviewed this location, with the exception of the slip roads, I can confirm that Kent County Council (KCC) owns and maintains the roundabouts above this junction. Should you wish to raise concerns about the litter on the roundabouts at this location, please kindly contact (KCC) directly at https://www.kent.gov.uk/ regarding this matter.

Due to the health and safety risks involved, we'd never recommend any members of the public try and clear litter along the road side.

We’re currently in the process of conducting litter clearance activities from junction 6 of the M2 up to the A2 junction with the M25 in both directions. This is expected to take place in phases under overnight closures during the next few months throughout Spring and this will include our slip roads at this location.

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.

Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
