Extended area of litter - before slip road and on to M20 (E)

Reported via desktop in the Slip Roads (NH) category anonymously at 17:50, Tuesday 11 March 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7263048.

There is an extended area of litter on A229 heading towards Maidstone, left verge, and around the slip onto M20 heading towards Dover. I believe it is an annual pick up but it's worst now than I ever remember. Possibly also on the Northbound verge of the A229 from M20 junction too.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

Having reviewed this location, I can confirm that Kent County Council (KCC) owns and maintains the A229 and roundabouts at junction 6 of the M20 . Should you wish to raise concerns about litter at this location, please kindly contact (KCC) directly at https://www.kent.gov.uk/ regarding this matter.

Regarding the on and off slip roads for the M20. This is our responsibility and we've passed your report to our local team who will review this issue and arrange any remedial action for the section of the M20.

Littering and fly tipping by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can.

Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people. Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow.

To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

Where we have identified redundant equipment, this will be removed. However, in some cases we do leave items in place for future use or for safety reasons.

    Kind regards
