Lack of wearing course, which was stripped early in 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7245479.
Lack of wearing course on road surface of the entire stretch of the bypass since early 2024 is causing steering issues. When will this be resurfaced? To avoid this issue I'm now having to drive through Longrock rather than use the bypass, as is my partner's son.

Thank you for contacting National Highways about the road surface on the A30 Longrock Bypass.
The A30 Longrock bypass is a concrete carriageway construction which was originally constructed back in the mid 1980’s. Concrete pavements such as these are not designed to have a separate wearing course applied to the traffic surface.
From February to April 2024, we carried out overnight repairs along this stretch of bypass, between Newtown Roundabout and Chy-an-Mor Roundabout. These repairs were carried out to extend the lifespan of the road and included the replacement of concrete bays, concrete repairs, and the renewal of transverse and longitudinal joints. Additionally, we retextured the concrete surface and updated road markings along the entire section. Flexible pavement was also renewed on the on the approach to and departure from the A30 Chy-an-Mor Roundabout
The retexturing work has been designed and delivered to improve safety by restoring the required skid resistance properties to the road surface. This method involves milling and grooving the concrete surface, which may explain why you think that the wearing course is missing.
Retexturing is a recognised method of restoring the surface properties of the concrete road which will benefit from a reduction in road noise to the local community and fewer maintenance visits over the next 15 years. The work we have done has been designed and delivered in full accordance with the requirements of our technical standards.
When the scheme was first opened to traffic, some similar concerns were raised by road users, specifically motorcyclists, regarding the finished surface treatment. These concerns were reviewed as part of the Road Safety Audit Process and shared with Devon and Cornwall Police. In July 2024, the police inspected and drove the site but did not identify any safety issues with the treatment applied.
We value feedback from our customers and your email has been passed onto the appropriate teams. We’ll continue to monitor the situation through routine inspection and condition surveys, to ensure that the surface treatment continues to meet the performance requirements of our standards.
