Graffiti reported in Sept 24 still there - lots of items covered in it

Reported via desktop in the Graffiti (NH) category anonymously at 12:17, Thursday 20 February 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7162189.

Reported in Sept 24, nothing done, various road signs, traffic signal boxes, roundabout arrows and street lamp columns are graffitied. Looks awful and clearly hasn't been followed up since Sept 24. Graffiti is all at a low height, so no need for height access, just needs cleaning off.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding graffiti.

We prioritise the removal of offensive graffiti within 24 hours of our inspection. Our team is dedicated to regularly inspecting the network to address such issues promptly. For non-offensive graffiti, it’s incorporated into our planned cyclical maintenance activities. This approach allows us to optimise costs by combining these tasks with other essential maintenance work, which may result in longer removal times.

Our extensive network across the south of England requires careful allocation of our designated funds to maintain various critical areas, such as addressing carriageway defects and other safety priorities first. Due to the significant costs associated with the continuous removal of graffiti and the likelihood of its recurrence within days or weeks, non-offensive graffiti will be addressed as part of broader maintenance priorities which can result in what appears to be a delayed response. This may cause graffiti to be left for long periods unfortunately.

We appreciate your understanding and patience on this matter.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
