Both sides of the slip road at the location on the map and Pepper Hill junction

Reported via mobile in the Slip Roads (NH) category anonymously at 17:34, Mon 17 February 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7148043.

There is an excessive amount of litter on both slip roads on both sides of the A2 (leaving and joining) at both Pepper Hill and Tollgate junctions. Appears to be mostly domestic rubbish but the problem doesn’t seem to have been tackled for in excess of 18 months. At tollgate this problem is exacerbated by the redundant and derelict hotel building that is surrounded by graffitied hoardings.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter.

We’re currently in the process of arranging litter clearance activities from junction 6 of the M2 up to the A2 junction with the M25 in both directions. This is expected to take place in phases over the next few months into Spring

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.

Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
