Traffic light timing M4 slip road junction 8/9 (eastbound)coming off to A404m

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 11:03, Thu 13 February 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7128669.

The traffic light timings this week have been very poor and only letting a few cars through at a time. This is causing more than a mile of standing traffic on the M4 eastbound towards junction 8/9. I saw a serious crash on Tuesday 11/02/2025 in the rush hour in these queues. The variable speed signs have also been illuminated due to the slow traffic. Please can you urgently have the technical team investigate. This is also affecting traffic southbound on the A404M

Updates

  • Please re-phase lights as slip road congesting back onto m4 causing potential crash hazard. DONT FAF ABOUT GET IT SORTED LIGHTS COMING OFF M4 NEED TO BE PROPERLY PHASED TO ALLOW MUCH MORE TIME TO CLEAR SLIP ROAD AT ALL TIMES

  • I phoned NH number this evening they said they would send someone out. Even at half term the queues have been crazy

  • Phoned National Highways again this morning regarding lights... there was a 4 mile tailback all the way to the lights!

  • Still an issue. Even pre 7:30 traffic is queued back for at least a mile. The second slip road where people are trying to jump the queue is becoming dangerous and causing traffic on other lanes of the m4

  • Hi other posters... can you call NH number as you actually get to speak to a person. As they don't read these updates. 0300 123 5000. It is so bad. I think the lights are only green for 10-12 seconds .

  • I called again this morning, they could see the heavy traffic on the live map, the said they would send somone out as an urgent matter. I've taken to taking the right hand lane on the slip road and going all the way around the roundabout as it's quicker than sitting in traffic 😅.
