Trees overhanging shared cycle path
Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 19:35, Tuesday 11 February 2025

A previous report of this incident was closed saying there was no problem. I am sorry but your maintenance team have not looked properly and the problem still exists with branches overhanging the cycle way at eye level. in addition the path width is reduced by detritus on the surface of the path. The North side of the road has been cut back very well but the south side is still very narrow.
Below is a copy of the previous report.

Trees and vegetation are overhanging the cycle path between the overhead footbridge and the Melton/Ferriby junction on the south side of the main A63 carriageway. These are at eye level and could cause serous injury to a cyclist. Please also see me previous post about on a fallen tree on the north side of the carriage way. These are 2 separate problems.

Further to my post above I have ridden along this cycle path again today (Wednesday 12/05/2025). The shrubs I am referring to have not been removed. The section in question is approximately 100m east of the overhead bridge on the south side of the A63. The length immediately after the bridge when travelling east (conifer trees) has been removed recently cut back and is vastly improved. However, there remains a short section of about 70-100m in length where the Beech hedge is overhanging approximately half the width of the path. The branches are only fine branches but are face & eye level and could cause injury to a cycle if passing another path user. In addition the width of the tarmac here is reduced to less than half of its actual width due to a build of debris on the floor. I have taken a series of date stamped photographs of the area in question but I do not have a means of sharing these with you. Could you please ensure these are cut back because this area is currently unlit and it poses a risk to cyclists. Thank you.

Thank you for your reports regarding the overgrown vegetation alongside the cycle path adjacent to the A64. We appreciate your concerns and the time taken to get in touch with us regarding this matter.
Having inspected the location, we agree that further vegetation clearance is required. We've raised a job with our maintenance contractors to cut back the vegetation on the footway and at cycle height on the cycle track. This will be carried out within the next 28 working days.
We hope this improves your future journeys and appreciate you raising this matter with us.
Kind regards
National Highways
