Fissure in road in centre of road as you turn right onto A21

Reported via desktop in the Pothole (NH) category anonymously at 21:32, Monday 10 February 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7115016.

This is a large fissure which wheels hit as you leave George Hill. If you were on a bike you could go down it. To avoid it you have to swing to the left and then sharp right onto the other lane

Updates

  • The fissure in the middle of the A21 at this point is a hazard for motocycles turning southwards onto the A21, motocycles turning off the A21 onto George Hill, and motocyles overtaking slow moving traffic going uphill on the Robertsbridge bypass. Putting a wheel into this fissure would result an instant and uncontrolled dismount into the path of oncoming traffic.

This stretch of road has been the site of many accidents and is also frequently used by motorbikes (I commute to Hastings by motorbike, but the 1066 cafe is close by and the A21 is used by recreational bikers to access the South Coast).

This ongoing defect in the road surface is a tragedy waiting to happen.
