Road vs Barriers

Reported via mobile in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category anonymously at 19:05, Tuesday 21 January 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7013532.

The single lane is really hard to negotiate in the dark. There are no reflective cats eyes on the road. The barriers either side appear to be grey. It all mergers into one in the dark. Be extra careful. Hopefully they can put reflectors on the barriers or floor to help.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

This section has recently had VRS (vehicle restraint system) installed between Redhouse and Barnsdale, near the Skelbrooke junctions.

Our traffic management contractor have done a drive through and can confirm that the A1 Redhouse running lanes currently have the original rib line and cats eyes, as well as temporary 6m white lines and a 3m gap for the lane divide, temporary amber studs on the offside barrier and traffic cones.

A review of the road markings is due to take place soon during upcoming planned full closures - any required replacements will happen then. This is dependant on effects from severe weather conditions.

They also carry out cone cleaning daily within the schemes. For A1 Redhouse this happens at night when the traffic management teams have the correct conditions and resources available to undertake the task.

    Kind regards
