Enormous amounts of litter on slip road at junction 34

Reported via mobile in the Slip Roads (NH) category anonymously at 13:51, Tuesday 21 January 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7011707.

Enormous amounts of litter on slip road at junction 34 and around the roundabout. It looks like years worth of litter. I have never seen the UK M and A roads in such a disgusting state as they are currently. If you are short on funding or resources you need to go and seek more from the Government. We can't continue to allow this amount of litter to be acceptable. Please do something here and across the country to put it right.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter.

This has been assessed by our Inspectors as an urgent need and will be undertaken within the next 28-days

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.

Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.

    Kind regards

  • We'd like to update you about the litter you reported on junction 34 on the M1. The clearance has been delayed slightly to coincide with some other work that needs to take place in the same location.

This is to save having to undertake work on 2 separate occasions which would mean more delays to road users.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
