Large number of streetlights not working on the A2 at Swanscombe cutting but also beyond patches of road all the way past the Medway bridge .

Reported via desktop in the Not working (NH) category by Jeremy Black at 14:03, Tuesday 14 January 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6978684.

I raised this issue back in November 2023.

I received an update that the LED replacement programme was in the design stage and the work should be completed by the end of 2024.

Well it's 2025 now so I wondered what the progress was?

It's such a busy stretch of road the swans come cutting that functioning lights are really needed in my view

Updates

  • I appreciate you taking the time to notify us about this issue, and we fully understand your concerns about the impact lighting outages may have on road users in the area.

We’re aware that multiple lighting outages continue to impact the A2 West and M2 including Darenth on the A2 and near junction 3 of the M2 near the Medway bridge.

We’re actively working to address these issues, and we’re working to resolve several lighting asset challenges connected with substations along the A2 and M2. Some of these faults are less straight forward than others.

At Darenth on the A2, we’re looking to get a new electrical supply into a pillar nearby, so they can feed the power to these columns directly, and this is proving to be a challenge.

Work took place earlier this week at junction 3 of the M2 where several lighting columns were restored.

At present, we’re waiting on materials to arrive so further work between junctions 2 and 4 on the M2 can take place to restore most of the lighting on the main carriageway.

In addition, the LED lighting replacement scheme is underway. Some replacements on the A2 have already taken place with other sections being delivered in phases.

Whilst we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales can vary depending on the complexity of the work and solutions required to rectify these issues. Please be assured we’ll look to resolve these lighting issues as soon as it’s possible.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
