Induction loops not working

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 14:16, Friday 10 January 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6962205.

Induction loops not working meaning the lights are operating on a "dumb" timed sequence. Drivers trying to cross the A2 are consequently having to wait a lot longer and are jumping the red lights in frustration. Additionally A2 traffic (both London and Coastbound is being held for much longer than necessary. This was reported on 5th November last year and still hasn't been repaired. • We appreciate you taking the time to notify us of this fault.

We’re aware of this issue and despite previous attempts to restore the lights at this location, unfortunately we’ve been unsuccessful. The lights do cycle through all approaches and is currently on a fixed time plan rather than responding to waiting vehicles. This is due to some of the vehicle detector loops under the road being faulty and needing to be replaced.

In the meantime, the site has been placed on a fixed time programme to allow traffic out of the side road. We're looking to replace the faulty loops and return the site to an adaptive timing (responding to waiting vehicles) as soon as it’s possible, however this is not a simple process.

Whilst we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales can vary depending on the complexity of work required to rectify the issue, and it maybe sometime until this is matter resolved.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
