Redundant 50MPH Signage

Reported via desktop in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 10:02, Wednesday 8 January 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6949468.

The explanation used to close previous report 6699995 is invalid - there have been no roadworks during the stated period. These signs have been in place for several months after work in the adjacent field and layby was completed; there is no reason for the signs to remain. The 50MPH signs are causing safety issues, they are almost universally ignored by regular road users (commuters), but other drivers are braking suddenly when they see the signs because there is no advance warning of any 'roadworks'. Please remove these abandoned signs.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the traffic management equipment.

Upon further investigation I have been informed that there is a safety defect under the carriageway at this location ( lane 2 ). This safety defect requires a reduction in speed until the repair has taken place. Plans are progressing to address this issue and the speed restriction will be removed as soon as it is complete.

Thank you again for highlighting this issue to us.

    Kind regards National Highways
