Street Lighting

Through the main stretch of roadworks the street lighting is insuffient, I don't know if this is more noticeable as there are less cars on the road? I drove into work yesterday and this morning and found it all quite dangerous the only lights are the floods where the men are working and these can be quite distracting.

Good Afternoon Melanie,
Your enquiry has been passed on to Balfour Beatty as we are working on behalf of National Highways to deliver this major road improvement on the A63.
Thank you for raising your concerns with the lighting throughout the A63 Castle Street scheme via FixMyStreet on Tuesday 31st December 2024,
I appreciate it may appear darker when travelling through the scheme when less vehicles are on the road. During construction on this major project and as part of our traffic management plan, we are required to place temporary tower lights at key junctions on Castle Street where vehicles are exiting and joining the main carriageway. For the safety of drivers within the temporary narrow lanes, with illuminated road studs in place, a 30mph speed limit is operated throughout the scheme.
The floodlights being used for construction of the underpass are in place to illuminate our working areas. I appreciate you sharing your concerns and we have assessed the positioning of the lights to ensure they are not facing any oncoming traffic or impacting on the visibility of drivers.
For the final scheme design, fixed street lighting will be also replaced adjacent to main carriageways, and we are working to reinstate this lighting as soon as we can, as we work through to completion of the project.
We would like to thank you again for contacting us and hope the information supplied has been helpful to you. If you have any further queries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us by email on A63CastleStreet.Hull@nationalhighways.co.uk or by telephone via the customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000.
Kind regards
Neil Customer Lead | Balfour Beatty A63 Castle Street
