Rocking manhole cover

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 19:34, Thu 19 December 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6882819.

There is a rocking manhole cover. This has been reported twice already. It is disturbing residents on quay road. The road has been closed in the area of the faulty cover twice since first reported. Once for tree cutting and again to mend a streetlight. Why wasn't the manhole cover fixed at the same time? It's been faulty for around three months now. Every time a car goes over it, it sounds like two gunshots. This is particularly disturbing at night. The cover in question is going eastbound on the a38 quay Rd area. Just as the pavement curves in for the bus to pull into the brick bus shelter. PL12 5HJ. There are two manhole covers. It's the one at the very beginning of the turn in for the bus. Not the one opposite the actual shelter.

  • Thank you for making your report. We've asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.

If the manhole cover is ours and any work is needed, they'll arrange for this to happen. If the manhole cover belongs to a utility company they'll ask for them to attend asap.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards
