Street light intermittent from jct 20-21a

Reported via desktop in the Not working (NH) category anonymously at 14:40, Thu 19 December 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6881532.

A large number of lights are not working, removed poles or the old type that are not consistent throughout northbound & southbound between Lymm jct 20 & M62 jct 21a.

Along with poor road surface & minimal line markings creates a dangerous driving experience at night.

This is one of the busiest road sections in the UK & its not even consistently lit, the whole stretch needs upgrading to the same colour lighting.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the streetlights.

We have switched lighting off on this stretch of road to support the Department of Transport’s aim to reduce carbon emissions. These roads have been carefully chosen with all road users safety considered.

We are still using road lighting where it is needed, however, we are confident that we can use less of it without a significant impact on safety. We will continue to monitor this and may restore the lighting if the situation changes.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
