Central Reserve Cross-over

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 10:04, Mon 16 December 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6866311.

There was a accident on the M62 motorway on the west-bound lane near Stott Hall Farm at about 10.30am on the 15/12/24. We were travelling east-bound towards Huddersfield. The west-bound traffic was stationary due to the accident. However, we witnessed multiple vehicles making a very dangerous manoeuvre. West bound traffic were driving across the central reserve using the cross-over to the east of Scammonden Dam and joining the east-bound traffic in lane 3 (outside lane). This was extremely dangerous and could potentially have caused a fatal accident due to the speed of vehicles and the number undertaking this manoeuvre. In the 10- 20 seconds it took us to pass the area we witnessed at least 5 vehicles join the eastbound carriageway but saw at least a 10 others in the central reserve cross-over waiting for an opportunity to join the carriageway. I would recommend that this cross-over has barriers installed to prevent this dangerous manoeuvre.
