Comes and lights left after works completed - very long delays

Reported via desktop in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 19:11, Sun 15 December 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6864842.

Works have been completed to house numbers 39, 41, 43a. Pavement works completed. Lights still in position and 50% of road still coned off from a start on Saturday eve. This is causing very long delays all day on Sunday evening. Please remove this asap and before Monday morning. This road is always very busy and constant delays caused by various contractors. More regard to residents should be included in these decisions to disrupt the only route west - east in East Sussex. Advance warning of disruption should be a minimum service. Thank you

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report,

I’ve investigated the date in question, and I can confirm that overnight from the 14 to 15 December, UKPN and SGN both had temporary traffic lights out. Unfortunately, the works for UKPN overran and were only concluded at 18:00 on 15th December, hence the delays you encountered.

Under the highways act utility companies can access their assets when they need to which can lead to them working on our network and the traffic management would be organised by them.

Our teams have requested further clarification from UKPN regarding the lack of explanation for the extended works via the permit application process, as this oversight is something we take seriously. Additionally, it’s important to note that all parties involved were asked to collaborate to minimise disruption. Despite these efforts, it appears that the coordination was not as seamless as hoped, which contributed to the delays.

    Kind Regards,

    National Highways.
