Accident on A57/M1 junction 31 On Thursday 5th December around 7.45 I was travelling southbound on the M1. I exited on the slip road at junction 31, took the outside lane signed for Sheffield, stopped at the slip road junction with the A57, waited until it was safe to proceed and then took the outside lane around the eastern bend of the oval shaped roundabout. At the point where the bend straightens onto the section of the roundabout that crosses the M1 my car lost traction and span out of control coming to rest against the kerb and pointing in the wrong direction resulting in the wheel nuts being sheared and leaving the car undriveable. The police attended the scene and stayed until the recovery vehicle arrived (10.30 ish). During this time a gentleman stopped and informed us that he had seen 2 other similar accidents in the same place in the last two weeks. My car was recovered and taken to a garage in a neighbouring village. The following morning I returned to the garage to provide them with the relevant details including what had happened and where. The owner of the garage said that he was aware of 4 accidents that had occurred in the same location over the last 4 weeks or so. On the back of these reports I was wondering if my accident was possibly beyond coincidental and that perhaps the road surface was a contributing factor and something worthy of inspection.
