Dead Cat on the Verge

Reported via mobile in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 14:53, Mon 9 December 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6839758.

Riding to work this morning at around 9am, spotted a dead black and white cat in the road. Wrapped him in motorbike cover and a lion king bag and removed him from the carriageway, but was unable to take to a vet for identification as I have a motorbike and could not carry him, and would not be safe for a car to stop there and move him. He is just off the duel carriageway on the left hand side, heading towards the Dobwalls roundabout. Right beside a yellow electric marker sign and not far before the sign identifying the roundabout. Visible from the road. RSPCA, Vets and Council will not remove as the road is managed by yourselves. Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.

Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
