Road markings Local and the other saying A303 are inadequate.

As you approach the Hays End roundabout along the A303 eastbound there are two road markings saying Local (LEFT LANE) and the other saying A303 (RIGHT LANE). Unfortunately there are two issues with this. The first problem is there isn't enough time for the traffic to react to the lane changing as the road markings are not far enough down the road. I use this road everyday as i live in South Petherton, and you can see the confusion that it causes from drivers that aren't familiar to this road making late changes either just before the roundabout or directly on it. The other issue is when the road is wet the earlier markings are very difficult to see as there isn't any lighting further away from the roundabout. These issues have only been present since the new road markings were put down. Why can't Highways put a sign up five hundred meters down road saying get in lane or to something to that effect? Many people I know are saying the same thing regarding this roundabout and something needs to be done before we see an accident on the approach.
Best regards

Thank you for making your report
We are aware of the issues at the Hays End roundabout, and we understand the challenges they pose to drivers, particularly those unfamiliar with the road. These concerns have been present for some time, even before the new lane markings were installed. A few years ago, we took the opportunity to implement the road markings as part of a pavement resurfacing scheme, but at that time, we were unable to deliver the additional signage.
We do, however, have a scheme in development to install a sign that would help clarify the lane requirements in advance of the roundabout. We plan to implement this sign as soon as resource allows.
We cannot provide a firm date for when the sign will be installed at the moment.
Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. It helps us to better understand where the highest-priority issues are across the Southwest, and we will continue to monitor this location to improve road safety.
Kind regards
National Highways
