Lack of noise barriers causes significant nuisance noise

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 11:43, Fri 29 November 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6799985.

The lack of noise barriers at this section of the M11, where the motorway is raised up above the surrounding villages, is causing significant noise disturbance over a large area. Further north on the M11 where noise barriers have been installed to prevent nuisance noise to the new Trumpington housing developments there's a clear reduction. The volume of traffic on the M11 and increasing housing development in this area of Cambridge means that noise is noticeable indoors in double glazed properties, even 2 km+ from the motorway. This is particularly bad on the east side of the motorway (e.g. Great and Little Shelford, Whittlesford) due to prevailing wind, but also affects Hauxton. Please remedy this by installing noise barriers south of Junction 11 in the 1.5km of raised motorway.
